LibTech seminar series, winter quarter

Important note: The Liberation technology seminar series has a new venue for the winter quarter at 380-380Y on Thursday's from 4:30-6:00 pm.

The Liberation Technology Seminar Series for the winter quarter features an impressive array of speakers, including:

12-Jan: Rebecca MacKinnon, senior fellow at the New America Foundation will kick off the series with a discussion on internet governance and its implications for democracy based on her new book “Consent of the Networked.” Books will be available for sale outside the venue.

19-Jan: David Wolman will discuss his new book “The Instigators,” which is an account of some of the most interesting people behind the revolution in Egypt, and their use of technology in instigating the revolution.

26-Jan: Jeremy Weinstein, professor of political science at Stanford University, who has returned from the White House recently, will discuss the use of technology for securing the accountability of governments. 

Other speakers in the series include Joshua Blumenstock of UC Berkeley, Jillian York from the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Helen Nissenbaum from NYU, Karthik Muralidharan from UCSD, Tavneet Suri from MIT and Yosem Companys of Stanford who is the power behind the @Liberationtech on Twitter feed. Finally, students can take the seminar series as a one credit course. Those who are interested should enroll in POLISCI 337S or CS 546.
